Atherton is a very affluent town with many mansions built and housed some of the most expensive home in the Bay Area. One of the current listing is in a price tag of $35 Million. This is an interesting town located in San Mateo County. Forbes ranks this Zip Code in 2010 as second Most Expensive in United States, with the average price of homes for sale over $5,000,000. Also for this reason, Atherton is one of the wealthiest cities in the United States.

Atherton was called Fair Oaks until 1923. Today, the town’s neighborhoods are still full of wooded with oaks, redwoods, cedars, pines, and ornamental trees. The town provides also an interesting school system public schools. Encinal, Las Lomitas, and Laurel are elementary schools, Selby Lane is both an elementary and a middle school and Menlo-Atherton is a high school.

Among the town’s private schools, St. Joseph’s is an elementary and middle school, Sacred Heart is a high school, and Menlo School is a middle and high school. Menlo College is a private four-year college. Atherton is also served by a Caltrain station with service only on weekends.
